marshall smith - line-upAlan Brown (middle): founder member of Big Flame, who in his time in various bands has recorded nine sessions for John Peel. Upon Big Flame's conclusion, he joined A Witness on drums. He later went on to form solo project The Great Leap Forward, and despite critical success concentrated on other commitments into the early 1990s. Daren Garratt (right): sensational drummer who served his apprenticeship with idiosyncratic Birmingham band Pram and is currently the rhythm backbone of Rob Lloyd's Nightingales and Black Country situationist garage punk outfit Das Fringe. Vince Hunt (left): also commited himself elsewhere as A Witness reached a conclusion, laying the foundations for his soundscape project Pure Sound. In the mid-90s, finding the need for songwriting returning, Hunt called up Brown and Garrett to form Marshall Smith - born over tarka dall and chapatis at Saleem's in Birmingham, which became the band's HQ as they looked to establish Marshall Smith as a live act.
